Penny Loafers and Berea College Concert Choir to Hold Joint Performance

The Penny Loafers will be featured with the Berea Concert Choir and Chamber Singers in a special fundraising concert on Saturday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Berea Baptist Church. The concert will include choral music by the Concert Choir and the Chamber Singers, conducted by Dr. Stephen Bolster, with Lindsay Clavere at the piano. The Penny Loafers will perform a special set of pieces.

Three of the four Penny Loafers are Berea College graduates and former members and leaders of the Concert Choir. The Penny Loafers began in 1985 when four Berea College students decided to sing for a talent show. Since then, the Penny Loafers have performed more than 1,000 concerts, released nine recordings and performed with several of gospel music’s greatest musicians.

This concert will raise funds to help choir students finance their upcoming 10-day concert tour to Croatia, Bosnia and Slovenia May 7-16, 2018. Music faculty members Dr. Stephen Bolster (conductor), Lindsay Clavere (pianist) and math professor Sandra Bolster (chaperone), will lead the choir on a trip to several cities, including Dubrovnik, Mostar, Zadar, Ljubljana and Zagreb. The concert tour will include extensive, professionally-guided tours of the cities and excursions to museums and World Heritage Sites. The choir will perform high-profile concerts in several Eastern European cities.

Tickets for the March 17 concert are available at various price levels:  student $5, supporter $10, friend $25, and patron $50. Three special categories of support are “Croatian Ambassador” $100, “Bosnian Ambassador” $101-$499, and “Slovenian Ambassador” $500+. Ambassadors at every level will have priority seating for the concert and will have their names listed in the concert program. (Please note that purchase of tickets at any price level cannot be recognized for tax purposes as a charitable contribution to Berea College.)

Tickets may be purchased in advance beginning Monday, March 12, at the Berea Baptist Church office 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. (checks only accepted there—no cash) or at the music office in Presser Hall weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon (checks or exact payment only). Tickets will also be on sale in the narthex of Berea Baptist beginning at 6:30 p.m. on the day of the performance. Personal checks are the preferred method of payment at all locations (the memo line needs to read “Concert Choir Balkans Tour Fund”).
