Dennis Gene Saylor

Dennis Gene Saylor age 48, son of Walter Saylor and Alice Cook Saylor, died Wednesday May 23, 2018 at his home.

Dennis was a tool and die maker for Highland Diversified in London, KY.

He is survived by his children: Bobby Gene Saylor, Chelsea Sabrina Saylor and Raelynn Gianna Saylor, his parents Walter Saylor and Alice Cook Saylor, and his siblings: Rodney (Jennifer) Saylor, Eugene (Eunice) Saylor, Jeanette (Wayne) Greer, and Rita (Phil) Turley, and his fiancé Rebecca Lawson.

Funeral services will be Tuesday May 29, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Bro. Kenneth Bush officiating, burial will be in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will also be on Tuesday from 11 am – 1 pm at the funeral Home.


Barbara Barrett Belcher

Barbara Barrett Belcher, 75, wife of Jim, passed away early Tuesday morning, May 22, 2018 at her home in Berea.

Her favorite expression was “live well, laugh often, love much;” this was something she embodied each day of her life, even as her health declined in later years.

She retired from Peoples Bank and Trust Company of Madison County after 29 years of service as a teller. She was involved with the Berea chapter of Business and Professional Women for many years, had been a competitive bowler, and was a member of Berea Church of God. In retirement, she enjoyed spending her time operating a booth at the Berea Flea Market.

She was born on February 15, 1943 at the Baltimore General Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, the fourth of nine children born to the late Alberta Louise (Hilliard) and James Raymond Conner. While living in Baltimore in the 1960s, she met and married her former husband, James “Pete” Bragg. His occupation ultimately led them to Berea, Kentucky, where they settled and raised their family. After their separation, they remained close friends. She later married Jim Belcher, a long-time family friend on October 30, 1998; they spent most of their 19 years of marriage enjoying retirement and grandchildren together.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James Raymond Bragg, in 1979; one sister, Patricia Bonner; and four brothers: James Barrett Conner, John Jarrell Conner, James Raymond Conner, Jr., and Kevin Joseph O’Conner.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Jim Belcher; one daughter, Leslie (Chriss) Niceley; two grandchildren, Conner (Chase Fain) Niceley and Caylin Niceley; two stepdaughters, Jami Belcher and Jimmi Lynn (Billy) Willett; four step-granddaughters: Brittany (Andrew) Freeman, Lauren Willett, Sydney Willett, and Morgan Willett; and one step-great-grandson, Blake Freeman. She is also survived by three sisters: Nancy Lee (Tony) Marchione, Wendy (Rob) Bearden, and her lifelong best friend, Mary Lou Griffin.

The family expresses their most sincere gratitude to her caretaker, Mildred Bordes, and the staff of Visiting Angels and Hospice Care Plus for their exceptional and loving care.

Funeral services for Barbara Belcher will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Rev. Buford Parkerson officiating. Entombment will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, May 23, 2018 from 6:00 until 9:00.

Those serving as pallbearers will be: George Hylton, Rip VanWinkle, Bobby Bishop, Michael Winget, Travis Davis, and John Sensabaugh.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association or to Hospice Care Plus.

Virginia K. Durham age 75 of Berea, passed away at her home on Sunday, May 20, 2018. Virginia was born in Melbourne, Kentucky to the late William Thomas and Lillie Sea Peach.

She was retired from Parker Seal Company and was a faithful member of the Rocky Mountain Holiness Church.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband James Durham, Sr., and two siblings, William Ralph Peach and Edna Mae Peach.

She is survived by her son James (Regina) Durham Jr.; one sister, Lillian Jean Raymond; five grandchildren Stephanie (Kirt) Conn, Rebecca (Tim) Gooch, JoAnna Henry, Buddy (Aryne) Durham, Jr, and J.C. Coleman; eight great grandchildren, Katelynn (DeWayne) Gibson, Curtis Conn, Grace Conn, Natalie Durham, Jordan Gooch, Elijah Hughes, Faith Henry, and Jayna Shavers; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be 2pm Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Bro. Morris Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in the Flat Gap Cemetery. Visitation will begin Wednesday at 12pm until 2pm at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be James Durham, Jr., Kirt Conn, Tim Gooch, Curtis Conn, Jordan Gooch, J.C. Coleman, Claude Tuttle, Jeremiah Owens, Brian Fryer, and Elijah Hughes.

Oliver Eugene “Gene” Forsythe, age 80, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018 at UK Hospital in Lexington. Oliver was born in Climax, Kentucky to the late Charles and Sarah Allen Forsythe.

He was a member of Crestview Holy Sanctuary for many years. He worked very hard and took great pride in his 50 years of owning and operating Forsythe Tree Service. He loved being with his family and attending family gatherings. He also loved to tell stories and never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Cora Helen McCollum, seven siblings; Marie Rowland, Viola Himes, Thelma Miller, Ray Forsythe, Dora Lee Potter, and infants Charles David Forsythe and Kenneth Forsythe; and one grandson Steven Forsythe.

He is survived by his children Donna (Donald) Gabbard, Glenn Forsythe, Scott Forsythe, Lisa Satterfield, David (Sharon) Forsythe, and Tammy (Mike) Wilson all of Berea; two siblings, Betty (Jim) Robinson of Indiana and Darrell (Dianne) Forsythe of Richmond; seven grandchildren, Trisha Satterfield, Daniel Forsythe, Joshua (Brooke) Gabbard, Valerie Gabbard, Sarah Forsythe, Lauren Wilson, and Rachel Wilson; and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Crestview Holy Sanctuary with Bro. Harold Eads, Bro. Mark Adams, and Bro. Ronnie Opplinger officiating. Burial will follow at the Davis-Witt Cemetery in Rockcastle County. Visitation will be Monday evening after 5pm at the church.

Cynthia Ann Malicote Rogers, 93, of Cady Drive, Richmond, died Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at St. Joseph East in Lexington surrounded by her family. She was a life-long resident of Madison County born May 13, 1925, daughter of the late C. H. and Mary Ballinger Malicote.

Cynthia was a former cake decorator at Thornberry’s Super Value, loved decorating cakes and sewing. She was a loyal and dedicated member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and very proud of the fact she had been a member of Bethlehem for over 71 years.

Survivors include 3 children, Ermon Rogers, Jr. (Mary), Beulah Robinson (Hubert), Frances English (Tom); daughter-in-law, Pat Rogers; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren; as well as a host of relatives, friends and church family.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death in October 2004 by her loving husband, Ermon Rogers, Sr; 1 son, Nick Rogers; and 4 siblings, Lester Malicote, William Malicote, George Malicote, Luella Malicote Roberts.

Funeral Service 10:00 am Friday, May 25, 2018 at Reppert Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Long and Bro. Chris Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday.

Grandsons and Great Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Granddaughters and Great Granddaughters.

Betty Alcorn

Betty Burress Alcorn, 80, of Mason, Ohio died Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Bethesda North Hospital in Montgomery, Ohio. She was a Logan, West Virginia native born August 3, 1937, daughter of the late James and Pearl Burress and had been a resident of Ohio for over 60 years.

Betty was a homemaker who enjoyed making jewelry, sewing and working word search puzzle books. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and always enjoying loving on her grandbabies and great grandbabies. Betty was very dedicated to her church, Sharon Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, James E. Alcorn; 3 children, Rosada Allen (Tom), Vickie Callaway (Tim), Mary Hughes (Roger); 4 siblings, Maggie, Glenn, Donald, Jerry; 7 grandchildren, Adrienne, Eli, Lisa, Lori, Christopher, James, Jazzminn; and 12 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 4 siblings, Nancy, Chuck, Helen, and Jimmy.

Funeral Service 2:00 pm, Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Reppert Funeral Home, Berea, Kentucky. Burial will follow in Pilot Knob Cemetery. Visitation 12:30 pm until service time on Wednesday.

Alvin Dennis Rhodus

Alvin Dennis Rhodus, husband of Virginia Rhodus, died on Saturday, May 26, 2018 in Richmond, Kentucky at his home.

Funeral details are pending at this time at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home.

Judy Lane Crawford

Judy Lane Crawford, 75, of Richmond, passed away Friday, May 25, 2018 at Baptist Health in Lexington. Judy was born December 28, 1942 in Cynthiana, KY to the late Howard and Gladys Walton Grayson.

She was a housewife and a former employee of the Eastern Kentucky University Library.

Judy is survived by her husband Jerry Sanford Crawford Sr., three sons Jerry Sanford (Donna) Crawford Jr. of Richmond, Glenn Austin Crawford of Florida and Michael Wayne Crawford of Richmond, one daughter Tara Marie Crawford of Richmond, and one brother Rodney Grayson. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Chelsea Crawford, Alesia Crawford, Cathy Jo Bowling, Christina Miller, Amanda Crawford, Michael Crawford Jr., Dakota Bell, Bailee Lane Crawford, and Rilee Jo Hensley. As well as her dog, Audie.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by one son.

Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral home with burial to follow at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, June 1, 2018 at the funeral home from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Joseph Nelson Ohler

Joseph Nelson Ohler, died on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 in Lexington, Kentucky at the Bluegrass Hospice Center at the University of Kentucky Hospital.

Joseph retired from Sherwin Williams in 1996 where he worked in the receiving department. He was of the Baptist faith and he served in the United States Navy. He was an avid golfer and he enjoyed working in his garden and woodworking.

Survivors include two sons, Patrick Ohler of Richmond, KY and Jeff Ohler (Sharon) of Versailles, KY; a brother, Larry OHler of Tennessee and a sister, Linda Heacock (Michael) of South Carolina; two grandchildren, Joseph P. Ohler and Stephanie Stallings; a brother in law Ray Shrum.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Oscar and Zelphia Moore Ohler and by one sister, Jane Shrum.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2018 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. His sons Patrick and Jeff will preside over the services. Burial will follow at the Lynn Camp Cemetery in Corbin, KY. Visitation will be from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. Friday at Funeral Home.

Daniel Stone

Mr. Daniel Wayne “Danny” Stone, 73, of Waco, passed away Friday, May 25, 2018 at Kenwood Health and Rehabilitation. Mr. Stone, the son of the late George Stone and Lou Jones Stones, was born in Madison County on March 10, 1945.

He was a self employed masonry contractor and enjoyed hunting and was an avid fisherman. Most importantly, he thought his grandchildren were simply the best. On June 3, 1966, Danny united in marriage to Eunice Noble Stone who survives.

Other survivors include their son: Jerry W. Stone and his wife Ellen of Richmond; four grandchildren: Gavin, Siobhan, Muirinn and Declan Stone, many nieces and nephews and a very special nephew and friend, Shelton Crow.

In addition to his parents, Danny was also preceded in death by his brothers: James, Clyde and W. J. Stone and sisters, Christeen Crow and Frieda Woodward.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Miller officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 5:00 P.M. Wednesday.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.

Nancy Florence Alexander

Mrs. Nancy Florence Alexander, 75, of Berea, passed away on May 22, 2018 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Nancy began life on July 31, 1942 in Owsley County Kentucky to the late George and Bessie Hensley Ramsey.

At the age of 18 she married Lowell Lewis and together they raised their four children until his death in 1981. Around 1985, she met and then married Ronald Alexander and they enjoyed 27 years of marriage until his death in 2013. She was a homemaker, housewife and gardener. She was a devoted employee of Cracker Barrel in Richmond for over 14 years, and was a member of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by: Terrie Cornelison (Jeffrey), Tammy Marcum (Brent), Eric Lewis (Nancy) and Sheri Truitt (James); 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other extended family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Manda Rae Jennings (d. 2001).

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, May 25, 2018, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond, with Bro. Jay Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 -9 PM Thursday, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be: Benjamin Mullins, Christopher Mullins, Jeffrey Cornelison, Brent Marcum, James Truitt and Nathan Lykins.

Cheryl Lee Moore, 43, the daughter of Wendell and Karen Moore, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at her home. Cheryl was born on August 6, 1974 in Richmond. She was a twin sister to Carol LeeAnn Moore, who preceded her in death on March 29, 1980.

Cheryl was a special needs person who loved the Lord. She especially enjoyed all the times that she could be with her friends at First Baptist Church. Cheryl loved everyone that she came in contact with and she would always recite John 3:16.

Survivors include her parents Wendell and Karen Crom Moore; three brothers: Douglas Moore (Donna), Wade Moore (Nancy) and Steve Moore (Melanie); her special friend and caregiver: Betty “Nana” Price; three aunts: Jean Ping, Priscilla Frisk and Marilyn Cassell as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, May 25, 2018 at The First Baptist Church, 425 Eastern Bypass, with Pastor Bill Fort and Bro. Tim Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM Friday at the church. The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers are: Jon Moore, Taylor Moore, Jacob Moore, Cooper Moore, Jessie Ritchy and John Caldwell.

Bernice Ellen Alexander Cheeks, 78, passed away on Saturday evening, May 19, 2018, at the Lee County Care and Rehab Center in Beattyville. She was born in Madison County on May 28, 1939 to the late Jesse and Fairy Alexander.

She was a Private Duty Nurse and enjoyed spending time in the garden. Ms. Cheeks was a very strong woman who wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. She attended the Richmond House of Prayer.

Survivors include: three sons, Jerry Cheeks (Connie), Gary Cheeks (Tina) and Terry Cheeks (Patty); three daughters, Peggy Jones, Patsy Davis (Charles) and Penny Cheeks (Darrin); 19 grandchildren, Ellen Kuehne, Terra Durbin, Jonna Mize, Terry Joe Cheeks, Dustin Eldridge, Cody Turner, Hannah Thomas, Dakota Garrett, Thomas Cheeks, Kirsten Cheeks, Daniel Cheeks, Brandi Cheeks, Blake Davis, Reina Davis, Rachel Davis, Brian VanWinkle, Kevin VanWinkle, Jessica Cheeks, Casey Cheeks; 22 great-grandchildren, Dylan Eldridge, Kenzie Eldridge, Nicholas Eldridge, Chloe Turner, Ivy Kuehne, Matthew VanWinkle, Rachel VanWinkle, Luke VanWinkle, Jackson VanWinkle, Kaylee Durbin, Kinzlee Drew, Jackson Cheeks, Hunter Cheeks, Zoey Huerta, Hailey Huerta, Trinity Huerta, Tristan Smallwood, Destiny Platt, Jaylinn Cheeks, Katie Cheeks, Kellie Cheeks, Emily Burns; three brothers, Johnny Alexander, Bobby Alexander and Lloyd “Jr” Alexander; four sisters, Linda Moberly, Katie Rollins, Lydia Baker and Emma Anglin; as well as a host of other extended family and friends.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 24, 2018, at the Richmond House of Prayer, 330 Mule Shed Lane., with Bro. Owen Moody officiating. Burial will follow in the Pilot Knob Cemetery. Visitation will be after 12:00PM (Noon), Thursday, at the church. The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers will be: Blake Davis, Dakota Garrett, Cody Turner, Dustin Eldridge, Terry Joe Cheeks and Thomas Cheeks. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Daniel Cheeks, Casey Cheeks, Brian VanWinkle and Kevin VanWinkle.

Darrell E. Clifford

Mr. Darrell E. Clifford, age 60 of Mt. Vernon, Ky. passed away Saturday, May 26th, 2018 at the Rockcastle Hospital. He was born on July 31, 1957 in Berea, Ky., a son of the late Jesse and Clara Reynolds Clifford.

He had been a bill board installer, who found great joy in fishing and hunting.

Those left to celebrate his life are his brother, Douglas Clifford and Carolyn of Dry Ridge, Ky. His companion of many years, Jennifer Bustle of Mt. Vernon, Ky. As well as a host of nieces/nephews, friends and neighbors.

Besides his parents, he was preceded In death by a brother, Dale “Wire-head” Clifford and two sisters, Judy Hines and Janet Powers.

A memorial service for Darrell will be scheduled at a later date.
