Randall “Randy” Lee Miller, age 59, husband of 41 years to Pam Robinson Miller, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2018, at Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington KY. He was born, December 11, 1958 in Berea, KY to the late Howard and Stella VanWinkle Miller.

Randy obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration from Northwood University. He retired after 30 years at Toyota Motor North America, most recently serving as Human Resources Manager. Randy was of the Baptist faith and a long-time member and deacon at Dry Run Baptist Church in Georgetown, KY. He was a member of Gideon’s International since 1998 and a volunteer speaker. He served as the Scott County President for the American Heart Association and a board member of Hospice of the Bluegrass, California State University at Long Beach and Crime Stoppers. Ida Mae (Baker) Powell was born on October 17, 1964 in Berea, KY and departed this life Saturday, October 13, 2018 following a long illness, being 53 years of age. She was the wife of the late Malcolm Powell and was the daughter of the late Jesse Baker.

She is survived by her mother Ella (Lakes) Baker of Berea. She is also survived by three children and three sisters. Her children are Janice Powell of Louisville, Jason Powell of Berea, and Katie Powell of Richmond. Her sisters are Eddie (Ricky) Miller of McKee, Gracie (Baker) Mills of Berea, and Betty (Dave) Davis of Richmond, IN. Beulah Combs Randall, age 81, wife of 60yrs to Cleamon Randall died Monday, October 8, 2018 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. She was born December 25, 1936 to the late Andy and Mattie Brewer Combs.

She loved caring for her home and family, loved to quilt and work jig saw puzzles. Mrs. Randall was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Bonnie Gale Granger Vincent, age 69, wife of Robley Vincent died Saturday, October 6th, 2018 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Mrs. Vincent was born September 18, 1949 in Mamou, Louisiana to the late Curley E. and Erose Bertrand Granger.

Bill “Big Bill” Helton Jr. passed away peacefully Oct. 1, 2018, with his children by his side. He was born in Garrett County, Ky., on April 5, 1943, to Bill and Cynthia Helton. He grew up in the Dowagiac area.

He met the love of his life, Diana Postelli, and they married Nov. 9, 1963. He worked and retired from Clark Equipment, and later he and Diana opened DD’s Trading Post. He always had a bologna sandwich for anyone hungry.

He is survived by his daughter, Laura (J. Shannon) Helton-Adams and their children, Jonathon and Shanna; his son, William Helton and his daughter, Caroline; his brother, C. Robert (Rebecca) Helton of Richmond, KY, his sisters: Janie (Robert) Lake, Etta (Roscoe) Asher, Edna (Bennie) Johnson; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Ruby Katherine Shanks, 75, of Richmond, passed away on Wednesday morning, October 3, 2018 at the Madison Health and Rehab Center in Richmond. She was born on November 23, 1942 in Madison County to the late Leonard and Alma Begley Hill.

Lesley Gail Wilson, age 54, died Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Florida Hospital in Tampa, Florida. He was born February 17, 1964 in Lexington, KY.

Mr. Wilson was a self-employed master carpenter, he loved his family, firearms and the beach.

Lesley was preceded in death by his father, Reo VanWinkle and a sister, Debra Jo Moore.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley Gilpin, of Berea, KY., his brother, Danny B. (Deenie) Wilson of Lexington, KY., his sisters, Kathy Poynter and Lois Anglin both of Berea, KY., Joyce Jones of Green Bay, WI., and Judy (Randy) Lake of Berea, KY. Charles Barnett age 79, husband of Lois Ann Barnett, died Thursday Sep. 27, 2018 in Lexington at the UK Medical Center.

Charles, also known as “Chicken Charlie”, was a member of the Silver Creek Baptist Church, and he was part of several businesses in town. Charlie worked for Parker Seal Company from 1959-1971, he operated the Tastee Freeze here in Berea from 1971-1992, he owned and ran the Quality Cleaners from 1993 to 2010, and he was a founding partner in Papaleno’s Pizza from 1984-1998. Lillian McQueary Reynolds, 90, the widow of Paris L. Reynolds, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 23, 2018. Mrs. Reynolds, the daughter of the late Willie and Lilly Cruse McQueary, was born in Madison County on March 15, 1928.

She was a retired employee of Westinghouse-Phillips and was a member of The Broadway Baptist Church. Before moving to Richmond, she was a longtime member of The Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher. Continue reading Lillian Reynolds

Mr. Howard is of the Holiness faith and a member of the Wilderness Holiness Church in Berea. He loved to play his banjo, fish and hunt Ginseng.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by, his wife, Mary Lou Godby, three sisters, Marie Hensley, Eliza Kirby, Della Mae Bowles, two brothers, Earl Howard, and George Howard, two grandchildren, Melissa Johnson, and Bobby Michael Allen, and two great grandsons, Cody Dees, & Clayton Hayes. Sheirlan Lovett Barnes, 69, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at the UK Markey Cancer Center of Lexington. Born June 15, 1949, in Richmond, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Hugh Lovett, Jr. and Dorothy (Short) Lovett, both of whom preceded her in death.

Sheirlan was a homemaker, but most of all a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed traveling with the family and playing Facebook games, and she loved her flower garden and her hummingbirds. She attended Brindle Ridge Baptist Church. Continue reading

William Kent Dunbar, age 91, widower of Janice Rose Mayne Dunbar died Saturday September 15, 2018 at the VA Medical center in Lexington, Ky. Mr. Dunbar was born May 5, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Guy Chandler and Glenna Barns Dunbar.

Mr. Dunbar was a self-employed woodworker and a US Army WWII Veteran.

Mr. Dunbar is survived by his children, James Dunbar and his wife Linda of Portage In., Wanda Cox and her husband Rick of Lexington, Ky. and grandchildren Clifford Cox of Lexington, Ky., and Michael Dunbar of Chicago, IL.

At Mr. Dunbar’s request his body was donated to University of Kentucky Medical Center to further medical Science.

Martha Edens Calie was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan on July 28, 1988 and died on August 27, 2018. She and her family have enormous gratitude for the medical knowledge, services, advocacy, and kind care that allowed her to progress into adulthood and to live life to its fullest. Her medical team enabled Martha to embrace life and be a horse lover, a baker, music lover, volunteer, and crafter.
