Shirley Belle Johnson Deaton, 83, of Berea died Friday, July 13, 2018 at Baptist Health Lexington. She was a life-long resident of Madison County born September 27, 1934, daughter of the late Ray and Tommye Hudson Johnson.

She was a retired postmaster of the Big Hill Post Office and member of Pilot Knob Baptist Church. Shirley was an accomplished seamstress, outstanding gardener, flower gardener, and very dedicated to her church where she served as Sunday School teacher and member of WMU (Woman’s Missionary Union). Joseph W. Hembree Sr. age 84, of Germantown, OH, passed away, July 10, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Red Lick, KY, on June 26, 1934 to the late Olivia Mae (Taylor) and Edward Hembree.

He retired from Franklin Box Board after more than 30 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening; but most of all Joe loved his family and his best buddy “Tanner”.

Laura Evelyn Himes Lunsford, 75, of Berea died Sunday, July 8, 2018 at her residence after a long illness. Born June 21, 1943 in Berea, daughter of the late Luther and Mary Montgomery Himes.

Laura was a homemaker that loved her devotion to her family as mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.

Wayne “Rooster” Combs, 55, of Berea, died Saturday, July 7, 2018 at his residence after an illness. He was a Berea native born August 26, 1962, son of the late Dilce and Euna Lamb Combs. A self-employed handyman, of the holiness faith, an Honorable Kentucky Colonel, a sports fan of the New York Yankees and the North Carolina Tarheels.

Survivors include 4 siblings: William Embree, Arthur Dale Embree, Oscar Combs and Betty Rothermel; special nephew caregiver Phillip Combs; special friends Tee Tee Potter, Debbie Potter and Edna Hensley; sister-in-law Eula Combs, as well as nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Joe Sidney “Jody” Eversole, age 72, husband of 48 years to Shirley Ann VanWinkle Eversol,e, died Wednesday, July 4th, 2018 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, KY. Mr. Eversole was born on February 14, 1946, to the late Joe and Sallie Powell Eversole.

He was a 35-year employee of Dresser Industries and a 12-year employee of KY Steel. Mr. Eversole was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam Conflict. Ronald was of the Christian faith and was a self-employed painter. He loved old cars and watching NASCAR. He won national awards playing horseshoes and enjoyed off-road four wheeling. Amanda Lynn Kelley, age 38 of Berea, passed away at UK Hospital on June 18, 2018. Amanda was born in Great Bend, Kansas to Nora Lee Ernst Bowden and the late Brian Lee Ernst.

She was a substitute teacher for Berea Community Schools.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband Joseph Kelley; three children Crystal Dawson, Seth Kelley, and Damian Kelley; two sisters, Jennifer and Adam Abney and Melissa Bowden; maternal grandmother Carol Gorman; and step fathers, Laurence Bowden and Steven Brown.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Joseph Collett of Tyner, Ky. was born May 26, 1950 in Leslie County, Kentucky and departed this life Saturday June 16, 2018 at the St. Joseph Hospital in London, Kentucky being 68 years of age. He was the son of Wiley and Bertha Hall Collett who both preceded him in death.

Joseph is survived by his wife Pamela Collett of Tyner and by the following children, Brian Collett of Clay County , Ky., Joseph Matthew Collett and his wife Annie of Sand Gap, Ky. and Anthony Collett and his wife Heather of Tyner, Ky., Joseph is also survived by the following siblings, Christine Caldwell of Middlefork, Ky., Goldie Collett of Clay County, Ky. and Martha Fotopaulaos of Tyner, Ky., also by seven grandchildren, Adrianna, Jacob, Corey, Emily, Sadie, Jackson and Gracie Collett. Virgil Catron age 85, husband of Meral Dean Otis Catron, died Wednesday June 13, 2018 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Virgil was born in Elliott County Kentucky to the late John and Jane McGill Catron.

Virgil was the former owner of Berea Farm Service in Berea, he was a graduate of Morehead State University and US Army veteran of the Korean War. Virgil was a longtime member of the Berea United Methodist Church, a member of the Oleika Shrine, Berea Rotary Club, and the Berea Masonic Lodge F&AM 617. Virgil was proud of his service to his country and wanted people to know that he was well taken care of while in the care of the Lexington VA Medical Center. The Reverend Ted Collett, 63, returned to his heavenly home on June 6, 2018, after a valiant battle with a long illness. Ted was born to the late Robert Collett and Hazel Roark-Collett-Slusher in Beverly, KY on June 14, 1954, and spent his entire life in the Red Bird Community.

His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Ted was a good father, grandfather and devoted husband. His faith led him to homes of those who needed the word of God and encouragement in their hour of need. Floyd loved being outdoors working in the yard or mostly tending to his garden. Floyd was a carpenter and was retired from Eastern Kentucky University. Floyd was of the Baptist faith.
